The boots looked exactly like what I was looking for, and everyone is always complementing them. They were squeaky whenever I first got them, but, after wearing them in, that went away. The thing is I've owned them for only a couple of weeks, and it seems like the back of the boot is starting to peel off the sole. Perhaps I should have expected this at a lower price, but it is still disappointing.

Lucchese Classics Women's M5711 Boot,Autumn Dry Leaf,9.5 B (M) US Review

In the last six years, I have bought (and sold) more Lucchese boots than I can remember. The majority of them have been 1883''s and maybe five pairs of Classics.
Never once was I not able to put their size 8.5 boot on, and, not be able to wear them out the door, and for the rest of the day. They have never needed to be broken in!
This was a great price for this boot, but they were only available in wide sizes.
I bought a 8.5 C, having just purchase, recently, one of the new "Since 1883, M series and, and surprisingly,and, finding them too tight.

The 8.5 in this style was too long. The exaggerated toe was comically exagerated.
In terms of width, this "wide" didn't seem any wider, than the standard 8.5 B, at all.
So, I returned them and got the 8C, which I got today.

They are so small! There is no way this boot can be one half size down from the 8.5C. I expected to have to fight to get through the ankle, because they are very fitted in that area, but there is absolutely no way the foot of this boot can be called wide. There is absolutely nothing WIDE about this boot. In fact it isn't even as wide as all of the B width Lucchese I have bought.

This does not bode well for the future.
There have been some big changes at Lucchese, and I'm afraid this could be the result of that. What you are not reading, anymore, when you read a description of the Lucchese boot craft, philosophy and fit, is that they are no longer being made in ElPaso, Texas. They are now being made in Mexico.

The inside leather lining is no longer that beautiful vanilla color, with the words Lucchese written on the inside in large script. Now, it is dark brown, and all you see printed inside is the size and the style number. In the tiniest letters you could possibly print, are the words: Made in Mexico.

They have discontinued their wildly popular 1883 line, which was slightly less expensive(not in all styles, granted),than the Classic line.

Now the line called "Since !883" is the priced higher than the old 1883's, and the Classic are higher than the old Classics line.

So, they are not being made in the United States anymore, but, they are MORE expensive.

These boots look absolutely gorgeous, and once you figure out what size you wear in them, and if you can still afford them, they will be great.From my experience with this model, I recommend ordering your normal size, but in wide width. Unless, like me , you don't mind spending three days wetting your boots, and trying to stretch them, as you wear them.

I think it's really sleazy of the company to not make any mention of change of country of origin, in the description they give to their retailers online.(and I'm not talking about discounters, like eBay) I mean very well known, Texas boot sellers like Cavenders, Sheplers, and Allen's Boots.

I don't think the company should be ashamed to tell their customers that their boots are being made in Mexico. That country has a great history of boot making. If they're switching to any country, that should be the one.

All I can say is, "What would Sam Lucchese say?"

These boots are beautiful and classic, but very hard on the ankles. I have lots of 4" heel shoes, but for some reason, these boots are a little hard to walk in. Perhaps thick heel causes it to feel more stiff than a stilletto. If only the heels were a little shorter, maybe it would be easier. I'm thinking about taking them to a cobbler to see if the heel can be shaved down, at least 1/4".
